Peugeot Conversion update

Hi everyone.

Been a while since the last post, but we're still here!! The Peugeot is about to be sprayed white, and Emma from Deliberate hooked us up with these bars from the Raleigh 'EQUIPE' which is now converted up to fixed gear for her company 'DELIBERATE. Started to polish them up today to see how they look. A bit more elbow grease and they'll be ready and waiting to adorn the bike.

DELIBERATE fixed gear conversion update

We got a pair of Panaracer 'stradius sport' tyres from www.sjscycles.co.uk and fitted them yesterday. It is really coming together now. The bars were cut down about 50mm each side and will have soyo long grips, which will cover the bars right up to where it flares to meet the stem. There is no sweep on these bars, with gives it a very solid looking stance. Stay tuned for completion!!

DELIBERATE fixed gear conversion update

Been waiting a while for parts to come in from various places on the planet. Most recently are these Nitto risers from Tokyo Fixed Gear. Really nice amount of rise and pretty light too. Hopefully some soyo long grips will arrive to be fitted next. Also a nice pair of Velocity 'Deep V' in white, laced to Origin8 hubs in white also. Chrome Spokes and nipples for the classic touch. This bike is starting to come together!

Peugeot fixed gear conversion update (for sale)

The Peugeot has finally made it into the spray booth, and has had four coats of primer. This will be left for a week to dry out, and then the colour coats will go on. White will be the main colour, with grey sections on the fork blades and rear triangle. We are also planning some graphics to go on it too. Stay tuned.

DELIBERATE bike conversion update

We managed to source some dry rub decal paper, to make some decals up for the DELIBERATE bike. We had already decided on design and positioning, so with some careful planning and marking out, we applied the decals to the frame. The finished article is crisp, and the colour is a really nice match to the bike. Some shiny new nitto bars are on their way, along with some white soyo long grips. Almost finished so stay tuned!

Peugeot conversion update.

The Peugeot frame and forks have now been stripped completely and are ready for primer. The cable guides have been ground off carefully with a grinder and filed in to the frame. The rear mech hanger has also gone and been filed in. The bottle cage mounts were filed off and filled with metal epoxy and sanded flush. The next stage is a thorough clean ready for the respray.

Rattlecan Spraying

value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1e8jf1dLRUQ&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01">

More and more people are taking on the spraying process using rattle cans. It gets a bad rep, but done properly, you can get great results. As always with any paint finish, preparation is key, and smooth transition of the can is essential to get the paint on evenly.

Here are two videos, part 1 describes the paint we used on this bike, and part 2 is the actual spraying process. A preparation video is in the making so stay tuned...

RIPARATO 'Corsa'

After the Ourys got torn up, not to mention the fact they were filthy, we decided to treat the Riparato 'corsa' to some new grips. These are the SOYO long grips. A vast improvement we think!

DELIBERATE bike conversion update

The original headtube badge on this raleigh was in fairly good condition and we wanted to use it on the deliberate bike. However, the original colors didn't work with the baby blue, they were just too stark. We then decided to strip the badge of color, then spray it with the same baby blue as the frame. Once this was dry, we used wet and dry to very carefully cut back the high spots, leaving paint in all the recessed areas, but removing it in the high areas. Then it was lacquered with 3 coats of clear, and polished once cured. The result works well with the bike. It's subtle but adds a little class.

'DELIBERATE' bike conversion update

Since the last session in the spray booth, Emma from DELIBERATE, dropped by the workshop to check it out. She was pleased!! The next thing we did was to decide on logo placement. We had played around with a few ideas and Paul at Riparato put together a rough idea of how the bike could look with the DELIBERATE design on the downtube. Basically a 'mock up' using paper with the printed logo. The top image shows the initial design stage, and the bottom picture shows the bike with its white logo section sprayed in candy white. This involved marking out where the logo should sit, masking off, and a few good coats of the candy white. These are then carefully buffed/polished in with the rest of the bikes paint job. Next job, get that simply sweet DELIBERATE logo on that ride!!!

DELIBERATE bike conversion update

Hi,

It's been a while since we last posted, as we've been busy in the spray booth, and then waiting for paint to dry! Here is the DELIBERATE bike conversion in it's new paint, baby blue. We used four coats of primer, laid on nice and heavy, then 6 coats of colour. Just finished buffing it up, so heres a quick photo. More to follow very soon, plus, a video of how we spray our bikes, just in case you fancy taking on your own!!

DELIBERATE bike conversion update

We have finished priming the DELIBERATE bike conversion frame and its drying out nicely. The next job to do is cut back the primer with very fine wet and dry to remove any overspray, dust particals and any other blemishes. At this stage, the cutting back is only very gentle, and doesn't involve getting the primer dead flat. There is a slight 'orange peel' finish in the primer, and we want to keep some of this, as it will help adhesion of the colour coats which are to follow.

'DELIBERATE' bike conversion update.

The frame and forks together. The rear mudguard eyelets are removed, along with the rear mech hanger. They just need filing in to the frame, and it's all set for primer.

'DELIBERATE' bike conversion update.

The 'DELIBERATE' bike is now fully stripped back to bare metal. The rear dropout on the drive side needs grounding out, and the rear mudguard eyelets need to be ground away before it can go into the spray booth for primer coats. Also we have drilled out the rivets which once secured the inner chainring to the outer ring. A wire brush was then used to clean them up. The chainring is a 52 tooth.

Riparato Fixed Gear T-shirts

Riparato fixed gear T-shirts are now available. Go to www.redbubble.com/people/riparato to check it out!!

'DELIBERATE' bike conversion update

The stripping process is well underway now. We use Nitromors paint stripper and a blade to scrape the softened paint away. Then we go in with course wire-wool to remove any remaining paint. The lugs are the trickier areas to strip, so a wire brush and drill mounted brush will be used to strip these areas.

'DELIBERATE' bike conversion update

The Raleigh forks for the DELIBERATE bike have now been stripped. The mudguard eyelets will be ground away next and finished ready for the primer coats. You can see some paint remains, but this will be buffed away with a wire brush.

'DELIBERATE' bike conversion update

The 'DELIBERATE' bike conversion is on the move! We have taken off all the bits we don't need, and it's looking good. The frame is in good condition, but the paint isn't great. This isn't a problem though, as it will be treated to a nice new paint job soon.

Here is a shot of the frame. Next job for this one is the removal of the braze-ons, which includes the rear mech hanger and a few cable guides. The rear dropout on the right of the bike is a little shallow, so we need to deepen it, to allow more back and forth adjustment when it comes to tightening the chain.

This stem is a real retro classic. It's in great nick, and just needs a bit of a clean up with wet and dry and some wire wool to bring it back to being a real looker.

Peugeot conversion update

The Peugeot has had the braze-ons removed, and is ready to be stripped and re-sprayed.

The gear shifter bosses have been carefully ground away. Some work with wet and dry is needed to get rid of the file marks.

The bottle cage mounts have also been removed and need to be filled before the frame is primed.

Fork re-spray for the original Riparato bike

Just a quick update for our first Riparato bike. We just felt that the bike could look better if the forks were the same colour as the frame, and we are really pleased with the results. Also some shots of the Sugino 'messenger' crank, the front Miche Technologies hub, and the Cinelli '1A' quill stem. All good bits of gear if you ask us!

Custom fixed gear conversion for www.bedeliberate.com

Emma Holmes of www.bedeliberate.com has decided to go fixed!!

Bike number three for Riparato is underway, and we are working closely with Emma to create her perfect ride. We found this bike near our home town, and it is a great bike for a fixed gear conversion. The bike is a Raleigh 'equipe' and will be undergoing the Riparato overhaul. First thing to do is strip it back like we did with the Peugeot, and get the frame ready for a respray. Emma has a good idea of what she wants. When you visit the DELIBERATE site you will notice that blue features heavily. So what better colour to use than blue!! The decals will be custom designed by Emma and will match the frame colour. More progression photos to follow so stay tuned. In the mean time head over to www.bedeliberate.com for the lowdown and some inspirational blogs to help you on your journey.

Progression of the Riparato fixed gear bike

After grinding off all the braze-ons, the bike is assembled to check everything is going to work before the primer goes on

The Carlton 'Corsa' stripped to bare metal ready to be primed.

Then we spray with a high build primer.

Then the top coat goes on. For this bike, 10 coats of colour went on and then left to harden for about a week. The colour is 'shock green light' by Montana.

Time to start the rebuild. Here you can see the headset cups fitted, ready to take the forks.

And the build is complete. Because of the simplicity of these bikes, it really doesn't take long to put it all together and get it on the road.
